I walk down to the office to hand the keys back and John glides down to the entrance area... "I knew we still had one lot to come in" said the lady on reception, "we looked on the cameras and could see you had an audience and lots of interest, so no worries". By now its 11.45am and we really need to get a move on. So its bye to the site team and off we go...( we will proberly stop here again when we travel up to Northern Terratories in August)
All packed up and waiting for the navigator..Hi John....just comin xxx my chariot awaits.
Another busy road hahahaha, this is a section of the Indian Ocean Drive...
The Navigator..
Bye Dongara and Port Dennison.....
Here we go again, we travel via a mix of the Indian Ocean Drive and Brand Highway, which is a bit scary cuz thats the main road going up north and the road-train lorries use the same route. So as soon as we can we take a left (yes I am the navigator, and so far so good, (well sort of)...and move across to the Indian Ocean drive. You cant actually see the ocean from all of the road, but its still a good drive with lots of scenary to make the drive go quickly.
The journey takes us through several small towns (ie a house and maybe a closed shop...) the petrol tank is going down, and the pointer is heading towards "E". Its very rare that John lets it get this low, but we ride on and then out of the blue a sign appears saying 'petrol' 2 kilometres. So on we drive and then when we get to the actual part where you turn off, the sign points to a dirt road.... no buildings just miles and miles of dirt road and farm land. We'll unfortunately Ruby does not like dirt road (and neither do I) as she tends to lay herself on one side and usually when I am on the back......so we ride on. We both have legs and fingers crossed, now we really are riding on a prayer and an almost empty tank, but then we spot the sign for 'Eneabba" and 'petrol'...
Ok, so in we roll to the garage, fill up and order two lattes' as you do.... I talk to the owner about 'Eneabba' (well thats how I thought you said it....) The owner quickly giggles and corrects it to ('any-i-abba'). So I stand corrected..but boy were we grateful to Eneabba... coffee was't bad either.
Ruby rests at Eneabba...
The long road ahead and as you can see the road is very busy as always NOT!!!!!!
Anyhow we are now only about 40 mins from Cervantes, so back on the bike and off we go. The site we are heading for has mixed reviews, so we are not sure how successful the stay there is going to be, but as its the only site near to the Pinnacles...there is not much choice.
Its now about 4pm and we rock up at Cervantes, book in and after trying out about 4 pitches, we decide on one on the grass, with power and at the bottom end of the site. There is only one other couple in the field with us and they are just setting up ,what looks like a brand new caravan. The couple are chatty and friendly and it transpires this is there first overnite caravan stay and this is their first caravan. The lady' Vicky' calls over and asks if we would like a coffee ??? Of course, 'lovely' we reply...we get invited into the caravan and its lovely, real luxury, and they even have a coffee machine that happens to make a flippin good latte'...They originate from Tamworth in the Uk, but have been in Australia for over 25 years and reached a very good position and lifestyle.
Anyway, its back to the unpacking and to getting the tent up, it does not take long and we are soon sorted and heading into town (one garage, one shop, one hotel and one lobster shack!!!) so milk and bread in hand , we run it back to the site and decide to have a pizza at the local hotel as they are offering wood burner pizza.. yum yum..Bellies full, we wander up to the site camp kitchen and its got a TV, now this is brill, cuz we have been watching a series called 'The Block' for flippin weeks and its the final show to night, John turns it on and fannnnnnntastic, the auctions on The Block have just started. So we watch the two hour show and then as we are both knackered, its back to the tent, into the sleeping bag and off to the land of nod.
The site is quiet (as they all seem to be by about 7.30pm) and we snuggle down to a peaceful nite under the canvas..
Here we are all set up at Cervantes...
This is the beach less than 50 yards from the tent....
and more
and this is all that divides our tent from the beach..The caravan you can see is right next door to our tent and belongs to Vicky and her husband.
The hotel at Cervantes and the wood burner pizza oven.....(ate on our owner.... no change there!!!!)
So good nite guys.....another day over.
