13th Jan, Surprises, muffins and clay pots ....Kuala Lumpur

We were both bleeding knackered last night and finally dragged ourselves out of bed at eight o'clock (ten, Ozzie time) this morning. Lin has of course opened her eyes, and now wants food..... With not even a rinse under the armpits, its into last nights clothes and out the door. The streets are as mad as ever, I thought it was a night market, and there is one, but there's also a day market which just gets added on to as the evening wears on. OK, so we're gonna eat, that's a bit of luck, next door do a breakfast buffet, all ya can eat for fifteen ringets, (bout four quid). They'll do nicely and in we go. I must say, it was a pretty fair effort even if it was chicken sausage's, almost cooked and nearly warm scrambled egg, not warm at all baked beans and veggie pancake rolls.... Not to be put off, the coffee and tea was good and Lin found the hot croissants and toast, so all was well. After brekkie, we took our tea and coffee outside and watched the stalls being set up and people and traffic pass by. Out of nowhere, Howard comes by pulling his cases. He's off to Vietnam this morning, not seeing us, he bends down to sort out his luggage, I creep up on him, stick me finger in his back and growl, "give us yer money".... Mistake, I thought the poor sod was gonna have a heart attack as he nearly fell over, either the drains were kicking up, or one of us needed a change of underwear and it weren't me. Lucky for me he had a good sense of humour. Still, I was ready to duck at a moments notice. Goodbye's were said once again, with the offer of 'if ever we want to go to Vietnam', contact him and he'd set it up. Bloody good chap...

With Howard gone and the morning right behind him, we take a wander around our new surroundings. We're right in the middle of this market with stalls popping up everywhere. There's not a lot you can't buy out here, its more like a giant boot sale, only all the stuffs brand new, everything from Nike trainers ( if ya think their real Nike, ya want ya lumps felt!!), Levi wallets, (oh yea) and of course, all the new release movies on DVD, what ya expect, it is Asia?

Hey, how bout that,?? we found a Starbucks, so theres no holding Lin back and I get dragged across four lanes of traffic getting there. Starbucks ain't cheep out here and two coffees and a banana- chocolate muffin.... (Lin's got the munches, again!) comes to the price of last nights meal. As we sip our coffees, Lin spots the first bit of wild life (second if you include the roach..) as a rat wanders out to watch Lin munch on her muffin. Times have changed and all I get is "Oh look, a rat". The rat gets bored and wanders off, then we get bored and wander off too, end of story.

After a trip back to the hotel for showers, write up yesterdays blogg and just a change of pace, its out once again to explore the night market. Seems the day market don't pack up, they just add another two rows of stalls down the centre. We thought it was packed before, now its like trying to walk along the inside of a tube train in the height of rush hour. I've got me hand on me wallet and so has Lin! I don't really mind cos its in the front pocket of me shorts, well, at least Lin thinks its me wallet and I ain't gonna tell her different, at least nothings gonna get pinched.

Time for dinner. I'm gonna have a go at the "clay pot chicken". This is street food, bits of chicken, bones, grissel, it all goes in the pot, along with rice and a bloody good slosh of the local brew, whatever that is, the lid gos on and its placed over hot embers, driven by a fan. Sparks and embers fly all over the place, singeing anyone brave enough to get within ten feet. The pots placed on the table and yer serve ya-self. All this for twenty six ringgets (bout a fiver) including a lemonade and a beer......
Lin ain't having none of this street food stuff and plumps for another go at the satay chicken she had yesterday at the restaurant over the road. Must be good cos she ended with  'yummy' and I thought she was gonna lick the plate.....

Another day over so its back to the hotel and the land of nod.

The 'ensuite'  posh it is not !!!!! and you take your life in your hands once you've showered and the floor is wet....and take my word it gets very wet !!!! but its clean, the waters hot and its better than being stinky all the time....
