We pack, pay the bill, say our goodbyes, say thank you to those that helped and there was plenty.
Wheel off....
The damage....
All off and waiting....
So just to mention the lovely Manual from Ceduna, who got the tyre and only charged us $293 ( about £220) and he was lovely to deal with and very fair and kept us informed all the time. Then there was Rod the trucker who took it to 'Mozzies roadhouse in Ceduna and 'Cowboy' the trucker who picked it up from Manual's, The three bikers who helped John lift and get the bike on the centre stand high on a piece of wood, and enough to pull the wheel out, ( the panniers, back box, seating, breaking mechanism etc all had to come off.... the chef who lent his tools, the pool man who got John some wood to raise the bike, And the all the other people who chatted to us, kept our spirits up and offered us contacts and details.
The wheel is back and on, yippeeeee, heres a very happy John xxxx
As its mothers day tomorrow and we will be traveling, we have ordered the flowers from here via Next, so fingers crossed they will be lovely and well received.
We have decided we will get as far as we can, but still stop regularly. We fuel up all the time, stop for coffee's and water. We pull into Cockerbiddy Roadhouse to get a cabin for the night. but they have had a plague of mice, 1000's and 1000's of them. The smell is putrid, the lady there is lovely and send us on to the next road house. She says as its daylight we should go on. We pass about 16 dead kangaroos on the way and a number of wallabies and emu's. They are all laid on the road side. Hence its not wise to drive at night, even the locals don't drive at night here if they can help it.
We arrive at the next roadhouse, Caiguna (Sunday). I book us in for the night. We park up first and then sit outside and have a coffee where we meet up with some bikers. We had a real laugh and in the end one of the couples Pete and Lilo, gave us their address, we are going to meet up in Perth.
But when we get to the cabin, what a bloody hole!!!! I would not sleep in the bed, so we slept on the bed in our sleeping bag, used our own pillows. Theres a sign on the door saying to keep the door shut to keep the snakes out !!!! We went to bed about 8.30, I woke up at 6.30am, I woke John. I did't want to shower and actually felt really low, I just hated the place, so we packed and left asap. In the bigger scale things, we thought Border village cabins were basic, but actually they were good compared to what we had to deal with here.
We arrive at Norseman, a small mining town, quite depressing, the local mine changed hands and they sacked all the workers and told them they would have to re-apply when the mine opened again (its still closed) We book into a a lovely old 1930's hotel, still being renovated but the lady, 'Therese', is lovely. We have a room with a bed in. Clean white linen sheets, clean showers, clean loo's, and a lovely brand of 'pod' coffee. We walk into town later and go to the local pub. Its 7pm there are 5 people including us in the pub and by 20 past there is just John and I. We order Pizza, very nice!!! and very large, good cuz we are flipping hungry.., chat to the Canadian Barmaid, eat our Pizza and then go back to the Hotel. We are in bed and asleep by 9.00pm. Theres two others staying at the hotel....
Here you go, The Railway Hotel, Norseman, owned and run by the lovely Therese
A view along the balcony.
John outside...
The town, what a shame for a community to loose its livelihood, (Gold mining) This was Norseman at 9.30am Monday
This Norseman, he's the horse the town is named after, he found the 'gold'
The town...
More town.. more empty streets.
Heres a camper van for sale, think we will give this one a miss lol...
More empty homes..
What a bloody week, talk about try you !!!! well mission impossible it was NOT, we won, we conquered and we moved on. Norseman is the end of the Nullarbor, so tomorrow will see us move off the Nullarbor and onto the last leg of the John Eyre Highway into Esperance.
So just to re-cap, we have now travelled, The Princes Highway, The Great Ocean Road, The John Eyre Highway, The Nullarbor, The 90 mile straight, to name but a few. All great roads each with their own idiosyncrasies.......Leg muscles are now good, bottom is pert!!!, and grasp to stay on bike at all cost excellent lol!!!!!
