I have to say the nites are flipping freezin here and have dropped as low as 2 degrees. So whilst I have never been one to make a fashion statement, I am afraid that going to bed in black footless long johns, my dish dash, hoodie and flip flops all on, does nothing to improve my ageing image lol..... I have avoided the photocall at all costs, but knowing him (you know who) I am sure to be caught out some time soon.
But then, yes then, he had a brainwave. Off he trotted and back he came with an electric fan heater. Well what a difference. So now we sit and read in the tent, as warm as toast, and it goes all nite lol xxx ( stuff their luck with the power bill!!!). Funnily enough Thursday we were talking to a young couple in the camp kitchen about the cold nites and John told them what he had done. Next time we saw then, they were smiling and told us they too had gone over the road and bought a fan heater. Now just to put this into perspective, this is a tiny coastal town, with one supermarket, a couple of household shops , a bank, a council and post office, so the population is very small. So when the lady who runs the hardware shop opposite the camp, meets for coffee with the campsite owners and says; "we've had lots of strangers in here and they are all buying electric fan heaters??", me thinks the penny will drop.... but until then we remain warm and happy........
Just to go back to when we arrived, it was early evening (for us anyway) but it was nearly pitch black here, so we raced to get the tent up and off I trotted to the ladies... Well , silly me with no torch... I cud not see where I was going, but found the block!!! The sign on the door says keep the door closed so as I came out of the block, I promptly closed the door and whoosh!!!! yes I was gone.... yes again... Where??? down the bloody step that I had not seen because there was no lights!!!!. I gathered myself together and wandered back to where I thought the tent was. Well in the camp kitchen where I found John, making hot drinks was a bush singer, called 'Buzzer'.... very typical, ozzie hat, long grey beard and long hair, guitar in hand, he was proberly about 80, but very nice. He overheard me saying to John about me falling out of the toilet door, cuz there was no lite. He asked me if I was ok, and I said'' well sort of, never mind'' and he said his goodbyes and off he went. (He sings for a a gold coin donation twice a week, (Gold coin = $1 or $2 lol) ... We thought no more about my 'trip' and off to bed we went.
Yesterday... we decide that with the sun shining, its not that bad here, site is a bit run down in some places, but overall its ok, the beaches are fab, the area ok and we are enjoying the place ( even if I am on my knees about 6 times a day sweeping (yes on my knees sweeping) the sand out of the tent!!!). Sorry I digress...... So off we trot to the office to book in for the weekend... The chap in the office asks me how I am??? I say fine and look surprised. " We heard you had a fall??? " I tell the chap that I had not told anyone, so how did he know..." Buzzer told us". So we book in for three nights which will take us to leave on Monday and guess what he says< " I will only charge you for one night, so you are having two nites free!" Wow, thats a saving of some $65-$70... "Thank you" we reply as John helps himself to another mint from the reception sweet bowl!!!!
BLESS that Buzzer, when we see him, we will defo, pass some gold coins his way xxx lol....
Anyway yesterday, we had lunch on the site cafe, its right on the beach front and actually food is very good, so we walk it off with a long walk along the beach. The sand is like caster sugar and soft and fine, the sea is as blue and as clear as anywhere and the beaches, well the beaches are empty. You would think with all this spare land the ozzies cud send some UK way!!! .... so many places have so few people living in it. Yet do you know that where they do live, they build right onto their neighbours boundaries...We can't understand it... still we can say that Jurien bay is lovely when its warm and sunny and flipin freezin at nite.(But still we have resolved that problem lol)
Last nites meal was the ozzie version of our fillet steak(they don't sale actual fillet steak because the Ozzies won't pay the price, its too expensive!!), John cooks it on the barbi with onions, red peepers and heaps of Mushrooms, followed on by two fresh corns,!!! yum, yum, yum... Bellies full, its washing up done, fan heater on and back to the tent... WE were as warm as toast xxxx Yippeee..
