While munching away on our favourite flake and watching the wallaby's bounce around like Zebedee on steroids and laying new booby traps at the same time, we decide to check out the local tourist attraction, namely Geekie gorge. Its black top all the way, so the bike can handle it, only eighteen K's away so not to far and its cheep, that's it, I'm sold. The river tour starts at 3.00pm, so no rush. The mornings taken up with the day to day stuff, bit of washing, catching up with this bloody thing and chatting with the neighbours and so on. Finally its soon time to go, so out comes the insect repellent and is slapped on with great abundance. Now I'm not sure if someone in the factory that makes this stuff, thought they'd have a laugh and filled all these tubes with used cooking fat, or no ones told the bloody mozzies and flies its supposed to be a repellent Co's no matter how much of this stuff you slap on, you still end up doing the fly wave and mozzie slap. Anyway, now covered in mozzie marinade, its off to the gorge. Some of the roads ain't to good round here but we soon make it safe and sound and as soon as I pry Lin's fingers out of me collarbone, its off to take a look at the water. We're a little early so we find a bit of shade and eat the packed lunch Lin made, sometimes cheese and cucumber can just be the best. (she reads this) The time arrives at last, we board the boat and off we go. Quite a good trip really, the guide seems to know his stuff and points out rocks, trees, bends that I'm sure we would have missed. Also pointed out the croc's lying on this bit of rock and that bit of sand, strange, cos at the end of the tour, he also pointed out were we might like to go swimming, he never got a tip!!!.
Tour over and its back down the wobbly road and home to the tent (or the mobile home as we like to call it) where we once again have new neighbours, so the conversation takes the same turns, nice bike, which way yer heading, were yer been, ha, ha, you Brits are nuts, same old thing, that out the way, its off for tea. Did Lin a local delicacy tonight, pork in skins with vegetables, wrapped in bread, OK, it was hot dogs, but that woman's worth it.
Well, night falls and its as black as coal, would you believe it, its only 7.00pm so now we get the night chorus and I really didn't believe insects could make so much noise, what makes it worse is its so sodding dark, you cant find em to stamp on the little gits. Oh well, perhaps the birds will take a day off in the morning and we'll get a lie in.
Him at Geike Gorge, (named after a British surveyor who has/had never even been to Oz, so its name is being changed now to aboriginal one... so more royalaties to go their way..).
The gorge, and yes we did do this on a boat, well a flotilla...thingy..
Me and the Gorge...
another day over, so off to eat again... xx
