Now for you, its just another road trip, so I'm gonna tell you what its like.
Some travellers would think its boring, I don't think so, the landscape constantly changes. The Earth near the road edge, is at the moment is a deep burnt ocker. Further back the grass changes from a dull straw to every colour green you can imagine, dotted as far as the eye can see, short hardy trees seem to spring up from everywhere. Thousands of termite mounds, some as small as a foot or so, some well over six foot, just seem to litter the place. Then there's the rocks, small outcrops here and there, then seemingly, pushing out of the ground, a huge monolith almost as old as time. For some who have never been outside of the UK, its difficult to explain the sense of space, you can see were the land meets the sky in every direction. There don't seem to be any boundary's here, no fence posts and no fences, this explains having to dodge round the odd Brahma bull, emu, kangaroo, wallaby and anything else that walks, crawls or slithers. This goes both ways, if you've got the right motor, you can swing off the road and have a go at mowing them down on their own turf. The road itself is something else, its about as wide as the high road outside the flat. Yup, that's it, just a bit wider than a caravan each way and everything comes down here from road trains to me and Lin. The road itself changes from really coarse bright white grit, to something that resembles our blacktop, only worryingly shinny. No matter what the surface, it can really chuck up the heat, not only fry an egg but probably cook the whole sodding breakfast. (really, really not kidding).
Enough of that for now, I'll get sloppy again a bit later on and describe a bit more. Up to now I've managed to avoid hitting the local wild life. Today I've made up for it. Round a bend, and theres a flock of gentle doves (yep, that's their name) clearing up the seeds that have fallen on the road.
Up and off they go all except one greedy little bugger who left it just one seed too late, next thing I know its trying very hard to look like a hood ornament and not doing to bad a job. It disappeared off the screen and that's the last we saw of it. One up to me, well on we travel. Fifty or so klms further on, we turn a bend and theres two bloody great eagles dinning out on this mornings road kill. I think its all good cos their tucking in on the other side of the road, silly me. I get within thirty foot, suddenly, one takes off right (good move) the other takes off left (not so good), Well I throttle back and the eagle is going like the clappers but ain't getting any height, I think the second portion of roo didn't help, bet he regretted it when a ton of gold wing smacked him up the a**e, I regretted it to, cos the bugger busted the lens on one of the side lights. So two to me and one to the wild life
