...... So in we roll and park up. The girl on the till is lovely, all smiles and happy. However thats not to be said for the Roadhouse owner, what a bloody misery, the girl cant do no right !!! We get a cabin, number 15, pay the $105 (Plus $10 for the loo key!) for the night and drive round the site to find our cabin. Well its no Hilton! thats for sure, but we've stayed in worse and as it happens its clean, safe , dry and cool.. so its no so bad.
We park the bike under the shade and go into the cafe and buy Chips, gravy and two coffees.... and as we have them in take away packaging, the man asks us to take them outside to eat!!!! Ok, we will sit outside... Bloody hell its so expensive, Chips, coffees, 2 cold drinks and an ice lolly leave hardly any change out of £40 (Our budget is well and truly screwed....). Good job we have a couple of pot noodles in the pod, cuz thats gonna be dinner for tonite. The bike as always draws lots of attention and when a coach load of people arrives, it has its photo taken over and over again. John and I just sit on the 'veranda' outside our room and watch from across the car park...
You can tell by the colour of the shower water that we are heading north as everything has an orangy tinge to it. John asks the girl in the garage if we can drink the water? "is it red?" she asks " no' Says John, "then you can drink it" she says lol.....
We meet the neighbours in the two cabins next to ours and sit outside chatting till about 9, then off to bed we go. I have to say it was one of the best nights sleep I've had for a while, the bed was lovely, really comfy and the room cool. We are told not to bother staying in Karrratha, but to try Point Samson which is much prettier... (but did they tell us the whole story...?), its just past Karratha and still right on the coast.
Its Jan's birthday today, but getting a signal is impossible out here, so we have to just keep trying... Happy Birthday Jan.,
So heres the piccies and goodbye to Nanutarra , thanks for the good nights rest..
The road to Nanutarra; some of the rocks here are bigger than Uluru, but they don't have the tourist attention...they are still stunning though and make the journey fun and interesting..
more road..
Look at the digger on top of its dirt...only in Oz!!!
John on the veranda..
Across the way, thats where we parked the bike initially,.out of the sun and in the shade.
6.00am the following morning and the mists from across the plains are in..this was a view from our cabin door.
The cabin..
Where did the dirt go? lol... same digger....
On the road again and off to Point Samson..
Me and him.
More road..
Look at this truck, parked outside Fortescue Roadhouse, we stopped here for coffee and yes more chips and gravy...and petrol..
Red, red, red, see what we mean about red earth??? and its gets into flippin everything..
more road ...
Heading towards Samson.... phew.
You certainly know you are in mining territory, this is Gina Rheinhart land and boy does she own a lot of it. The trucks are getting bigger and and bigger. The largest so far has been pulling 6 trailers, now that really is a road train.... thats fine until Driver Smith feels the need to overtake them!!!!! I can only say that my butt cheeks get a good workout when we are on the move...I will say no more, I am sure you get the gist.
Thats all for now...
