28th Oct, were's Noah when yer need him? Emu Park

Now this is taking the pee. I stuck me head out the tent at Seven this morning and its hissing down and at ten in the evening, its still going. Whats going on? I know they've got to water the grass but bloody hell!  come on, this is Oz...

OK, this is gonna be a short one. You could say, rain stopped play. Laid in most of the morning (well Lin did) and went down to Dave and Lin's for lunch. Had a small leak on the crispy, now soggy tent. Apart from bringing this thing up to date, we done bugger all. That's yer lot.

NO not Noah and the ark, just PAUL the site owner trying to find the drain so he can reconnect the pump... god help our tent...

and it flipin rained and rained...

This is me and my mate Lyn (whose from New Zealand) we met her and hubbie Dave two sites ago and up they popped up on the site here too.. they rescued us from the rain and took us in and gave us lunch...Thank you Lyn and Dave xx

Me and Lyn still playin silly....hahahaha

Thats all folks cuz we gotta dry out, we got leaks !!!!

27th Oct, Itchy and scratchy Cape Hillsborough to Emu Park

I enjoyed last night's bit of fishing, but Oh boy, I'm I paying for it now. I thought I might have a few bug bites, Wrong, I've got LOADS of bites, so bad in places.... I've got more bites than skin. Got em everywhere, legs, arms, hands, back and belly. Lin's been bit too, looks like we weren't alone on that walk along the beach What ain't gonna help is we're moving on today, riding the bike and getting an itch ain't gonna be fun.....

The roads straightened out a bit so we ain't doing too bad. When we stop at the roadworks we both scratch like mad till its time to move on. We stop a few times for fuel, coffee and another scratch, the itch feels like it go's down to the bone, it just the weirdest feeling and one we could really do without.

We seem to hit more roadworks than usual and its one of the long rides, so theres more stops, but the good thing is, we don't get lost. Its been a long day and we finally arrive at the Emu Park camp site, only to find, the only spots they have, don't have any shade, not only that, but their hosting an October fest tomorrow. Not for us..... Lin gets on the phone and works her magic, she's found a camp two k down the road, so off we go. What a nice place, plenty of shade and grass sites. That's it and with a final scratch's we book in. As we're setting up the tent, we hear "Lin, John". Its Dave and Lin, a couple of friends we meet at Mission beach. So with promises of coffee when we finish, we put up the tent and pop into town for food and anti itch creams. Its dark when we get back, so we don't waste time in firing up the barbie and sorting out supper. With full tums and enough anti itch stuff on to smell like a hospital, its off for that promised coffee and to catch up on whats been happening.

On the road again..and who have we got in front ??? you see this all the time out here... I think the Ozzie man uses the excuse 'of just walking the dog darlin...'  and can you see the sugar cane train running across the road, they are usually about 100 carriages long...

more countryside... ozzie style..

 It never stops changing....

And here is a local shire (council to you) with a sense of humour..

and the ansa .... lol...
 more road...

and HOME...again (for 5 days anyway)  ahhhhh and here we are at Ocean View caravan park, on Kinga Beach, Emu Park, QLD all set up and ready to rock and.......scratch !!!!

and this is the bbq where we cook...and the tables we eat at..

Thats all for today.. love to all and bye for now....

26th Oct, Cape Hillsborough, crabs, sand and lots of beach....

Its a gorgeous day, sun's shining, a light breeze is blowing and I've just found out theres three of them bleeding turkeys, surely they ain't gonna miss one.....? We're having breakfast, I'm watching the turkey, the turkey's watching me and Lin's watching both of us, if she blinks, the turkeys a 'gonna'. The turkey seems to sense this and decides the bush looks like a better place to be for the moment and buggers off.

Breakfast and showers out the way, its time to explore the beach. The tides gone way out and what were once Islands are now just clumps of rock, sticking out of the sand. We walk along the edge of the waves, into the neighbouring bay (Sandy beach). Theres a sign at the entrance to the beach giving a warning about Stinger season (nasty little jellyfish), from October/November so not one toe, on Lin's feet is going in that water, even though she was swimming in it two days ago.... Oh well, better safe than sorry. Back to camp for some of the more mundane things in life, such as the laundry, (well, its got to be done some time). So we stick the smalls in the machine, buy a couple of ice creams and lay out by the pool till its all done. Funny really, looking back, we don't seem to do much during the course of the day, but the days go so quick, we don't have much time to do it in anyway.

Teas been cooked and ate, the lights beginning to fade and high tides about an hour away. Right, gonna have another go at this fishing lark. The bait cost me four bucks that I ain't gonna waste and I haven't been night fishing since I was a kid. Got me torch and me gear together, right, off I trot. It really is something on the beach. Theres a three quarter moon, its so bright I don't need the torch, warm water washing round me feet and a cool breeze coming in from the sea. The sea's calm with the reflection of the moon bouncing of the waves. The fishing's going well and I'm getting a few bites and pull in a small whiting, then it all go's wrong. I hook a fish and the hook comes off, great, I hook another one, feels like a big bugger too, the line snaps. I'm not bothered cos its so nice down here. By now I've moved further up the beach as the tides coming in and now I'm on dry sand. I start to get the itches. Ive had enough and go back to the tent and tell Lin whats happened. She gets a torch out, takes one look, zips herself into the bedroom and tells me I'm not coming in till I've taken a shower. Looks like I've picked up a few midges. Seems like even in heaven, theres a little bit of hell. Oh well, I was gonna have a shower anyway....

Casuarina Beach...

...this is Casuarina beach....(where we are staying.)

Yes that is our tent you can see from the beach...

These are hundreds of little blue back crabs running for their lives...

He's so bloody laid back...I am gonna have to find his 'on' switch when we get back....

Rock pooling.....bet he gets bit....

This is the start of Sandy Beach...and yes it has lots of rocks on it.. hence its name "Sandy Beach" lol...

No ships John....just lots of sea and sand... and flippin midges!!!!

Some of natures natural art...(Billee would be proud of her mum taking this piccie!)

I name this land....Linda's Point !!!! lol.....(very 50's.....well yes I suppose it is, I am 53...)

A coconut tree, would't wanna be standing under this one when the nuts fall!!! and if he shakes it, I am gonna stab him !!!!!!

More coconuts ???? well at least it gives the poor bloody turkey a chance, poor thing belts past our tent every time he sees John and I swear if John drops a box of sage and onion in my shopping trolley, its not gonna be turkey on the plate!!!!  I will say no more....

So there we are... coconuts, sea, sand, crabs and more sea and beaches.....heaven....(except for the bites..!)

Night all, love you lots xxxxxx

25th Oct, chilling out, Cape Hillsbrough and the coconut..

So here we are on Casaruan beach, in the heart of one of Australia's national parks. Can't get a signal, so no Internet and no phone, but just to make up for it, we've got sun, sea, palm trees and a turkey that's just wandering round, and I would just love to introduce it to a box of sage and onion. I keep trying to entice him over, but Lin's guessed what I'm up to and is making sure the turkey and paxo never meet. Just to keep me occupied, we gather a couple of coconuts. Now for those that don't know, coconuts don't come like you find them in the supermarkets, they come ready wrapped in their own packaging with the nut buried inside. No problem, just get out the claw hammer and knock nine types of crap out of it, that should do it........... Not a bloody chance!. Seems like the coconut was made with the hammer in mind and has grown rather hairy between the outer skin and the nut. I was there for a frigging hour, pulling this way and tugging that. How they sell these things in Tesco's for a nicker, beats me. Anyway, I finally realised that I've started at the wrong end and with a bit of help from Lin, We finally scalped the bars*ted and got the nut out. Got to say, it was worth it, the milk was creamy and the flesh was sweet, yer cant beat a coconut right off the tree, whats more, the turkey got a reprieve, but I'll get the bugger yet, we're here for another two nights.

So time to get the rod out. (Oi, me fishing rod, me kids read this). Seems like no matter where you go and no matter how little stuff they have in these general stores, they always have bait, so down to the beach, tides coming in, perfect. Not a sodding bite, nix, Nada, nothing, I'm sure this bleeding sea's empty, never mind, I'll have another go tomorrow.

We're out here in the middle of nowhere and the only place we can get supplies is the camp shop. Unfortunately the shops stock is a little limited, so tea for tonight is gonna be a fry up, who cares?. We're on an adventure, anyway, we're got the ocean as a back drop, the stars as a ceiling, each other and a possum that keeps running across the camp and taking a swan dive into the rubbish bin, Who could want for more? (apart from that turkey, and I'm gonna have that bugger)...

Wooosh, bang and it lands... well 6 of the flipping things do....

A man on a mission....stuff that coconuts luck !!!

Blimey John, its lookin at yah !!!!

 NO mercy.....he's hungry...

Ahhhhh heaven.....

The real thing... very nice.....

As you can see he doth enjoy himself...

and I think he's still smiling...

This Casuarina Beach... beautiful and just outside our tent... how lucky are we ???

I see no ships (and no turkeys either lol!!!)

The end of another perfect day it will be pitch black in about half hour.. so night folks.... love to all.. xx
