Bloody typical ain't it, I stick me head out the tent and its bleeding raining. Not just the little drops, oh no, great big fat ones that clump on the tent. The sky don't look to promising, sort of grey/ black just hanging over the sea. Well, do we stay or do we wrap things up in the rain and make a run for it. Sod it, give it an hour and see what happens. We sit in the tent and time tic's by, I'm looking at her and she's looking at me. Bugger it, lets go. The rains just coming in stops and starts so we might just get away with it. Right, trailer out, uncover the bike and we go hell for leather. We've done this wrapping up thing once or twice before, so its not long before everythings away. We both have quick showers (yea, even me) and its into our wets, on to the bike and we're off. No sooner we're off the site, the heavens open. Cor, did it come down, good job the car in front had its light on or I wouldn't have known he was there.
We're heading for Mission beach, so its back the way we came and this part of the road hugs the coast on one side, and the mountain on the other. I recon the guy in front thought I was caught on his bumper, cos if I lost him, I wouldn't know were the road was. We're approaching Cairns and come to the first roundabout, half way round and the rear wheel starts to slide, I catch it and bring it up, hopefully Lin didn't notice. As we approach the second roundabout, Lin grabs my waist (yea, she's got long arms), looks like she noticed...... Bugger me, the bike does the slippy thing again. If this keeps up, I think we're gonna have to stop soon for an underpants change, the cheeks of me ar*e are starting to ache. This is gonna be a long, slow ride. Another couple of K's and I gotta pull over, Its raining so hard, I just cant see a thing. Think I'm joking? you try driving along at 65mph in the pouring rain and turn yer wipers off. Before you do, slip on an incontinence pad, you'll be needing it.
So we finally get through Cairns and the weather seems to be giving us a break. Its still overcast, but at least its stopped raining. The countryside is just as unbelievable coming back. The tops of the mountains have got their heads in the clouds and steam just pours off the lower slopes. We both feel a bit like that ourselves. It may have just been raining, but no one said it was cold, must still be somewhere round thirty and that's just me armpits.
The sky starts to brighten up, so we pull in for a coffee and to get these waterproofs off, they may keep the water out, but also keep the heat in and even from the front with the wind in my face, I can tell Lin's getting a little ripe. (I'm so gonna pay for writing that). Wets off and coffees drunk, back on the bike and its not to much longer till we're pulling back on to Mission beach, talk about creatures of habit, we even ask for the same site. The suns shining, the tents up and Lin's cleaning out the fridge (even thrown out the milk and salad we left here last time). So alls right with the world.....
